This nicely proportioned Herbert Dittrich double bass has a shop label of this instrument maker from Wilhelmshoh, Germany. The story behind it is that it was built in the Wilfer shop, on a Wilfer bench but made by Mr. Dittrich. So this was built with individual care in a tradition where a maker can build an instrument in a larger shop, even using their tools and forms. The result is a lovely gamba-cornered German contrabass with pretty straightforward Maple and a larger pattern.
Delivers quite a punch with its current 43″ string length, can be modified by Upton Bass to the next owner’s liking. Originally had tuner plates, replaced with individual Ebony key tuners.
